Warner Bros. is eyeing Joaquin Phoenix as a potential villain in Batman Vs. Superman, with sources saying he could play Lex Luthor. Though, it has not been confirmed if this is the DC Comics character the studio has in mind for the Oscar-winning actor.

The studio is reportedly impressed with Joaquin Phoenix's performance in their upcoming December release Her, and want him to be involved in their biggest movie of 2015. It is still early in the casting process. Warner Bros. hasn't made a formal offer to the actor just yet, and its unclear if he will be willing to accept, as Joaquin Phoenix has made it known that he has no interest in appearing in big budget studio fare. He has sought in recent years to build a career on movies that feel 'more prestigious'.

The actor has recently been offered the lead in Gus Van Sant's next movie, Sea of Trees, though he has not accepted that role at this time.

Warner Bros. has no comment at this time.

While the actor is being linked to Lex Luthor, Jason Momoa and Callan Mulvey have also reportedly been eyed for the role. This new report states that those two actors will most likely not play the main villain. Warner Bros. is looking for a bigger name. Someone who will be a 'slam dunk in the role.' Doomsday is another villain that has been mentioned for Batman Vs. Superman.

Nothing is confirmed in regards to which villains will appear in the movie. We only have speculation to go on at this time. Do you think Joaquin Phoenix is a good fit for Lex Luthor?
