John Cusack will step into Roland Emmerich's latest epic for his next project. According to Variety, Cusack has signed on for 2012.

The trade also reports that Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to join the project as well. The film will center on a researcher who finds a portal to a parralel universe and he goes into that world to contact his double to warn him and try to prevent the upcoming apocalypse that the ancient Mayans predicted.

Emmerich wrote the script with Harald Kloser, and Emmerich will produce as well, but it is not clear if he will direct as well. Production is planned for a July start in Los Angeles, barring a Screen Actors Guild strike.

2012 was released November 13th, 2009.

I love that they are making a movie about this, I think this will be a very interesting film to watch.

clockworkcookie: you're an idiot, because they actually did, so look it up.

This could work. Too soon for a judgement though...

Sounds like a good idea. Just hope Emmerich directs at his best for this, and it should be great. Was looking forward to 10,000 BC, but like Darktower19 says, the woolly mammoths in the desert summed that up. Was ID a fluke? Hope not.

The whole parralel universe thing sounds like a sci fi movie on tv....

Cusack usually picks good roles, so we'll see.

The mayans didn't even predict any apocalypse :D This sounds lame.

This could be cool if someone else directed, but i've kinda lost confidence in emerich.

Would someone please tell Roland Emmerich to stop making movies!!! Independence Day = cool, because of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. Everything else he does = lame as hell, because of...desert mammoths.

Okay, now this sounds stupid. Would rather it be what it was before: a family on vacation trying to outrun the apocalypse as it begins happening around them.
