John Goodman has joined Rupert Wyatt's upcoming reboot of the classic drama The Gambler. Mark Wahlberg, Brie Larson and Jessica Lange are attached to star.

The film follows a literature professor (Mark Wahlberg) whose gambling addiction lands him in trouble with his family and some unpleasant gangsters. The original was directed by Karel Reisz and starred James Caan. John Goodman will play a Jewish loan shark.

Rupert Wyatt will direct from a script provided by William Monahan. Irwin Winkler, who produced the original, is producing. No production schedule has been released.

John Goodman most recently voiced Sullivan in Pixar's Monsters University. He will next be seen in George Clooney's war documentary The Monuments Men on February 7th.
