Justin Long made a surprising revelation in a recent interview with Newsday, that Johnny Depp is starring in his upcoming indie horror film Tusk.

"Yeah, the one where a man turns into a war horse. It's called Tusk. Johnny Depp is in that one."

This is the first we've heard about the actor being cast in director Kevin Smith's movie. The story follows Justin Long's character, a journalist who lands the story of a lifetime when he meets Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), an adventurer who has a strange penchant for walruses. Genesis Rodriguez, Haley Joel Osment and Ralph Garman co-star.

Johnny Depp's role has not been confirmed, but The Wrap speculates that he may be playing a French-Canadian inspector named Guy LaPointe, who investigates a strange case involving a man trapped in a walrus costume. Kevin Smith had previously hinted that he wants a major movie star for the role, which would have only required two days of shooting. On September 4, the filmmaker sent out the following tweet, revealing that he had landed this mystery actor.

A representative for A24 Films, which will distribute Tusk later this year, revealed in March that Kevin Smith had "cast a friend" as LaPointe. Since Kevin Smith and Johnny Depp have hosted charity events together and their daughters even went to the same school at one time, it seems he may definitely be in the movie.

Johnny Depp will next be seen in Transcendence, arriving in theaters April 18.
