Horror auteur Rob Zombie has attempted to remake a VERY classic and beloved horror film. That fact alone is frightful to some and exciting to others. It's time to weigh in horror fans...

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF ROB ZOMBIE'S

HALLOWEEN?

Halloween was released August 31st, 2007.

I know its been a while since the last comment..but i gotta say...everyone saying bad stuff about the movie aren't true halloween fans....Zombie added everything that was missing to the original..the original was good, but zombie's was better...the reason that "LITTLE MICHAEL" was innocent at one moment and then crazy another was his condition...he was a psycho...he didn't know what he was doing half the time...find out what a psycho is before you clown this movie...in the orignal michael was portrayed as a psycho...they just didn't go deep into his story...there's more to michael than just him puttin on a mask..i always thought that watching all the films..and i am a film of all of them except ressurection and h20...

IT WASNT THAT BAD! NOW, HALLOWEEN SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TOUCHED, I AGREE. BUT IT WAS A WORTHY EFFORT. ZOMBIE USED THE MUSIC AND A LOT OF CARPENTER'S CAMERA WORK TO MAKE A MODERN HOMAGE TO THE CLASSIC. THE SPRINKLES OF ZOMIBIE'S PAST FILMS DO PRESENT THEMSELVES IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE MOVIE, ONCE 15 YEARS LATER COMES AROUND IT'S ALL CARPENTER...SO TO SPEAK. CARPENTER LOVE HITCHC*CK AND THE LESS IS MORE APPROACH IN THE 78 VERSION PROVES THAT. MUCH LIKE JAWS THE FACT THAT THE SHAPE IS SHOWN AT SHOULDER VIEW MAKES IT A LITTLE MORE CHILLING. AS FAR AST THE ACTING IS CONCERNED...NANCY LOOMIS AND P.J. SOLES WERE'NT EXACTLY OSCAR WINNERS...IT'S HORROR! IT'S VERY RARE THAT HORROR FILMS HAVE GREAT ACTING. MALCOM MCDOWELL WAS OK,NO DONALD PLEASENCE BUT OK. IT WAS STRANGE TO SEE LITTLE JAIME LLOYD FROM HALLOWEEN 4 AND 5 TOPLESS...FELT LIKE SUCH A PERV. ANYWAY, WAS'NT THE BEST IN THE WORLD BUT WAS WAY BETTER THAN HALLOWEEN 4, 5, 6, AND RESURECTION. ZOMBIE...GOOD TRY...NO SEQUELS!

Halloween is, objectively speaking and without thinking about the original, a crummy film. As a remake of the Carpenter movie it's a heinous abortion.

John Carpenter can rest easy; any self-respecting horror fan will forget this film even exists by the time the real Halloween rolls around this year.

Halloween is about graphic brutality and absolutely nothing more.

RAZZIE FOR WORST ACTRESS: Scout-Taylor Compton. Scout-Taylor Compton should have her SAG card taken away, & NEVER BE allowed to make another movie! EVER! SAME for Danielle Harris, WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS! EVEN IF YOU CAN CALL "THAT" ACTING!?!?!

It was horrible. I was very amped for this one and it was terrible. Watching a dof puke is more enjoyable. At least that is able to scare and churn my stomach a little bit. It was very watered down. And the little Michael Meyers was just weird. then he acts like he wont hurt people he likes in the storie line then kills that janitor who took care of him. Come on. This movie was gay!

I agree that this movie is extremely bad. Halloween and The Exercise are the only ones that I became a fan of. This Halloween does look like the Devils Rejects or 1000 Corps. It has nothing scary to it, just allot of blood and guts. With all the hype, I am extremely disappointed with Zombie and how this movie came out. Good thing I saw an illegal copy instead of going to theaters and wasting my money.

Bad Acting, Plotholes, and non scary violence = Halloween 2007

I think the whole origin story takes away from the "Boogeyman" mystique that Carpenter created with the original.

This remake is simply not scary - It tries to be another Devils Rejects clone with a cast untalented younger actors.

I mean he barely even used the original theme which is one of the best things about Carpenters original.

....also wasn't sad to see Horror icon Dee Wallace as Laurie's adopted mother waste her talents! Guess she needed to pay rent?? Brad Dourif also wasted his talent, or what talent he thought he had!

                      ALSO PLOT HOLE:

Despite being locked in an asylum and having a brain that's mostly mush, he doesn't miss a step after breaking out -- he knows exactly where to find Laurie, who is living under her adoptive name. HOW???

I now feel more than confident calling this flick a true-blue remake and not any sort of "reboot" or "reimagining.

Rob Zombie's Halloween is such a mess, such a massive disappointment, such a... clusterf*ck, that I am almost convinced I didn't even see the whole movie.

There's also a disturbingly high number of continuity errors:

                      FOR EXAMPLE:

Cops show up at a house different than the one they were asked to come to, and their car is shown in front of the house before they even arrive!

..1 final note: DEBRA HILL must be rolling in her grave right now (No Pun there, sorry)!.

This so-called reinvention doesn't cut it by a long shot. It is a foul-mouthed, soulless, low-rent slasher flick that mistakes graphic violence for genuine thrills and sex scenes for character development. "We" both used to be fans of "John Carpenter", but now John, your nothing but a sold-out Hollywood hack!! 1st "The Fog" was Re-Made into crap ("The Fog": John Carpenter gets shafted two years before the Halloween remake with this wishy-washy rendition of his 1980 thriller), 100% laughable crap that is. Now I hear a re-make of "Escape from New York" is in the pipe-line!! WHY..?? WHY?? OH, GOD WHY!?!?!

"Halloween" should have never been touched, the orginial should have been cleaned-up etc & Re-released into theaters! Hollywood and these so called "Directors" Re-making great, cult films into mindless crap for a new generation hooked on CGI, more blood etc and less story and characters!!! Poor Jamie Lee, I wonder how she feels about "ROB ZOMBIE'S

HALLOWEEN"?? It would be interesting if she spoke up and stated the truth, after all she is the "Scream Queen"! Scout-Taylor Compton is more like the

"Yelp Queen", or "The Bad-Acting Queen"! Scout-Taylor Compton and Mr. Zombie (and anyone else who was involved in the Halloween Re-Make)should have there SAG cards taken away & forced to go to film & acting school!! "Halloween" is Proof that maybe even moviegoers should sue! Who knows? Maybe if we ignore these pointless remakes enough, pretty soon they'll all go away. "ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN" is a textbook example of how not to make a horror film!

                          WORST HORROR REMAKES:

                          Black Christmas (2006)

                          The Wicker Man (2006) -

                          The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

                          The Amityville Horror (2005)

                          The Fog (2005)

& now ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN (2007) can be added to the list of crap that needs to be burned!

                            ..NOTE TO ROB ZOMBIE:

Aside from dialogue, the script cites Michael Myers by name only twice. In the opening scene, he is called a POV until he is revealed at age 6. From the rest of the script on out he is referred to as a "shape" until Laurie rips his mask off in the final scene (which he never reapplies in the script). "The Shape", as credited in the film, refers to when his face is masked or obscured.

Was made on a budget of $300000, it became the highest-grossing independent movie ever made at that time. Also First released in 1978, was produced on a budget of only $325,000 and grossed $56 million at the box office in the United States, becoming one of the most profitable independent films ever!

..HATED IT...It lacked originality. I didn't need a back story of Michael Myers. His back-story has been kicked around by fans since before the dawn of the interenet or WWW. John Carpenter is the King of film horror, I can't beleive that he would allow his classic to be missed with. In the "Original" Hallowen the Myeres were middle-class, not some Jerry Springer rip off. & it was never mentioned if MM had a sister etc untill "Halloween 2". He was just "The Shape". The killer who escaped on Halloween night, the same night he killed his own sister some 20 years eaierler. Who on that day saw a young girl who reminded him of his sister whom he had killed so many years ago, and it triggers something in him to go and kill this unknown girl for that purpose alone, & no matter who may be in his way. This "So-Called" New Vision was nothing but a rip-off on the orginial with no "real" horror scares. I was bored by the end. No edge of the seat terror. More blood and guts. No shadows, less light, & more use of the audience imagination! A real waste of $15.00 for 2 People! It missed the mark with horror originality, intenseness & Characterization. I was laughing by the end. When Lori was runnning from MM toward the of the film, it looked more like a something from "The Mummy" films of the 30's! Razzie Nominee mention here: for "Worst Actress" Scout-Taylor Compton! Razzie Nominee "Worst Supporting-Actress"

                                  Danielle Harris!

So far on my list of "Wosrt films of 2007", right next to "Underdog", "Hostel Part II" & " Perfect Stranger (2007)"

..I love this quote and have to agree:

"Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween is so bad it aspires to the height of utter pointlessness that was Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho." Review by Mark Dujsik (Mark Reviews Movies)

                                    or

"What an insult to John Carpenter's classic. This Halloween movie will have you screaming, but not from the screenplay, but rather at it. . Should you have any craving to see this film, don't. Rent the original on DVD and enjoy what the original Michael Myers and John Carpenter had to offer. 1 out of 4 stars." - Review By: Jolene Mendez (Entertainment Spectrum).

I wasted $15.00 expected to have the crap scared of me. Yeah. My partner and I were laughing so hard by the ending. Love the Over-the-top acting, and the mummy like running. "ohh he is only 5 feet from me .."WALKING"!". Just too funny. & who is Scout Taylor-Compton anyways?? She had no color, no on-screen presence! Jamie Lee had least could act, & you cared about her character.

Give her the "Razzie" for "Worst Actress". She is right behing Halley Berry for "Perfect Stranger" for a razie!

& if this was a New "Vison" or some other lame excuse way you want to say "Re-Make", why wasn't there any mention of 'THORN".? The sixth installment also reveals that Michael at some point in his childhood was chosen by a cult to bear the Curse of Thorn. The cult believes that a child from one family must be chosen to bear the curse and sacrifice their entire family in order to save the rest of the community from death. The curse apparently makes the user immortal or grants the ability to self-resurrect once dead, and gives other super-natural abilities like superhuman strength. The curse is what the cult believes causes Michael to stalk and kill family members. It is not known exactly how many family members Michael has killed outside his immediate family. He has at least two biological family members still living: John, Laurie Myers Strode's 17 year old son in Halloween H20 and Jamie Lloyd Carruthers's infant son from The Curse of Michael Myers...????

Hollywood stop trying to Re-Make, Up-Date or Place-A-New-Spin on old material..just invest into Re-Mastering the "Original" print, and Re-Release the "Original" into theaters.

The idea to delve more into little Michaels past was an interesting idea, but the overall concept did not work. It changed Michael's upbringing as a normal typical middle class family to a white trash abusive family. It made you feel sorry for Michael and showed that he had emotion for them. Including his little sister. I give credit for the original idea, but unfortunately it just didn't work. And in fact when we are brought up to date the scenes were brought in too fast and we didn't have time to get to know the characters once again and even care what happened.

The two main differences I could see were that #1 this one was narrated from Michael's POV as compared to Laurie Strobes. This had to be done because you can't switch narrators mid story - thus a lot of the suspense was lost. #2 - Expanding on the suspense being lost. We saw Michael way too much. In Carpenters version he was a lot more mysterious and showed up just often enough to scare us and leave us wanting more and wondering where he would show up next! Also Michael was scary but they made him huge! This is not necessarily a bad thing, but he just beat and smashed his victims up like any normal person and even moved fast for his victims. Although that was scary - Carpenters version of his empty - emotionless thirst for blood and his creepy same pace walk (even in the face of danger)- very calm version of Michael still sends chills down my spine to this day. Also Carpenters version was more invincible... This was more like a physco man - but nothing subhuman in his strength. I give Zombie credit for his vision - but it just can't compete with Carpenters version. Carpenter ingeniously left a lot more to our imagination than this did.

This will be my final post on this subject, so I figure I should make the last of my points. Based on my observations of posts both on Movieweb and RZ' Halloween Myspace, some of us did not see the same movie. The people on myspace are all posting how great this movie is. One even went as far as saying RZ's version was better then the original and that RZ's version should be the new original and John Carpenter's version should never be played again. Give me a **** break and stop filling up RZ's ego. Over the past 10 years, Hollywood continues to take classic versions of horror movies and turn them into cash cows because of hype. It's been reported that they are considering remaking Friday the 13th, JC's "The Thing", Nightmare on Elm Street, Prom Night among others. I think with recent flops as "The Fog" and the Texas Chainsaw remake, we can see that Hollywood doesn't care about what the fans want but the almighty dollar. RZ's version undoubtly is going to be liked by more of the early 20 somethings, because it focuses on gore, violence and sexual content. The original had one nudity scene, little to no blood and yet it worked, even though it too had flaws. I don't expect someone to watch the original and be scared, not when today's movies are more violent then ever and RZ proved that. I watched the original yesterday and I still love the mastery of JC and how "The Shape" was portrayed, whereas when I watched RZ' version I still can't figure out why he felt the need to make Michael be the victim and his sister was his redemption from his pain and suffering. Regardless of my thoughts, you will be the judge on how remakes get received. I am one person who did not like the remake or in most cases any remake, but as long was people keeping giving their money they will keep making the movies and we will keep posting our thoughts in both agreement and disagreement.
