At Comic-Con last month, Marvel's The Avengers filmmaker Joss Whedon revealed he had not made a final decision on whether or not he will direct The Avengers 2. Today, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Joss Whedon will both write and direct the highly-anticipated sequel. The news was revealed during a conference call announcing Disney's quarterly earnings.

Marvel's The Avengers took the box office by storm this summer, raking in a massive $616.7 million at the domestic box office, and over $1.4 billion worldwide. The sequel won't hit theaters until at least 2015, since Marvel Studios currently has the sequels Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier slated for release throughout 2014.

Bob Iger also revealed that Joss Whedon is developing a live-action TV series, featuring characters from the Marvel Universe. We first reported on this small screen project last month, although the director's name wasn't attached at that time.
