Not even the news of a new Star Wars: Episode VII brought this much attention to a single film project. The announcement that Ben Affleck is our new Batman in Man of Steel 2 has caused quite a bit of controversy. While many are happy with the casting, quite a few more folks are steaming mad, some even going as far as to petition Affleck out of the role.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon isn't jumping on that hate train, though. He has nothing but love and support to show for his former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star (yes, one of Ben's first breaks came courtesy of Joss on this cult favorite show).

Check out the director's Tweet from last night.

This is obviously good sportsmanship on Whedon's part, as his Marvel mega-blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron will open May 1, 2015, the same summer Ben Affleck debuts as Batman in Man of Steel 2 on July 17. Its going to be a box office showdown unlike anything we've ever seen.
