Joss Whedon Shows His Support for Ben Affleck as Batman

Not even the news of a new Star Wars: Episode VII brought this much attention to a single film project. The announcement that Ben Affleck is our new Batman in Man of Steel 2 has caused quite a bit of controversy. While many are happy with the casting, quite a few more folks are steaming mad, some even going as far as to petition Affleck out of the role.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon isn't jumping on that hate train, though. He has nothing but love and support to show for his former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star (yes, one of Ben's first breaks came courtesy of Joss on this cult favorite show).

Check out the director's Tweet from last night.

This is obviously good sportsmanship on Whedon's part, as his Marvel mega-blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron will open May 1, 2015, the same summer Ben Affleck debuts as Batman in Man of Steel 2 on July 17. Its going to be a box office showdown unlike anything we've ever seen.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes to theaters March 25th, 2016.

I don't mean to sound like a douchebag but the ignorance just proves how truly retarded film audiences are nowadays.

what is with the ignorance below me? Did you kids not learn from Heath Ledger, Henry Cavill, Daniel Craig, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale?

"Pretend this isn't going to suck" oh I'm sorry-pass that link to piratebay to me, I've been dying to see a movie that came out in 2015.

I wonder who would be the real villain that's gonna appear in MOS2, I wish its John Corban (aka Metallo) or brainiac at the end credits.

And now Adam West and Val Kilmer have gone on the record to give support to Affleck playing Batman.

If he gets support from either Michael Keaton or Christian Bale, then there is nothing negative anyone can say about him having the role

When it comes to action films I find Ben isn't as good, I preform him in romantic or drama films, yes I said it.

@supermanvenom@thebd It's happened with Heath Ledger, Michael Keaton (who I actually didn't like too much, but I understand why most fans like him), Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo, and many other comic book actors. If fanboys actually learned from past events, there would be a lot less whiny BS going on. I'm not saying that Affleck has it in the bag, but the response from many has been downright unreasonable.

hey give Affleck a chance, i mean we all thought Heath Ledger playing the joker was a mistake, then he mastered the role

@supermanvenom agreed. Everyone pissed and moaned about heath ledger, then the movie came out and everyone praised him. everyone pissed and moaned about Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, then the movie came out and everyone loved them both.

ppl need to calm down, and Ben Affleck is very underappreciated. The Town, Gone Baby Gone, and Argo are all awesome. Yeah he made a few sh*tty movies earlier in his career but in the last like 7 years he has made all good sh*t.

yes, i love daredevil as batman. NOT!!!!! that is the only real problem. ben is a good actor but i thought they wanted an older batman? they already had horrible actors before for batman like adam west (but that was a comedy), keaton, kilmer, clooney, so why not ben?
