Actress Julianne Moore is in early talks to join the cast of Carrie, the MGM Studios remake of the 1976 horror classic.

We reported last month that Chloe Moretz will star as the title character, a troubled teenage girl who uses her telekinetic abilities to get revenge on the classmates who tormented her. If a deal is finalized, Julianne Moore will play Carrie's deranged mother, a role Piper Laurie received an Oscar nomination for in the first Carrie.

Kimberly Peirce is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. We also reported last week that MGM handed out a March 15, 2013 release date for the remake, although it still isn't known exactly when production may begin.
