Columbia Pictures has hired writer Zach Helm to pen their upcoming Jumanji reboot.

Joe Johnston's original family adventure centered on a suburban family who found a magical board game that released jungle plants and giant creatures as they progressed in the game. The film was an adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's book and starred Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce and David Alan Grier.

Zach Helm is best known for writing Stranger Than Fiction and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, which he directed.

Matthew Tolmach, Bill Teitler, Ted Field and Mike Weber will be producing. No production schedule has been released.
