Unless you missed the ending of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, you are likely very aware that Superman is currently dead in the Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe. Fans need not worry though, as Zack Snyder has already confirmed Henry Cavill will be returning as the Man of Steel, very likely in Justice League next year. Cavill has just fanned the flames of anticipation, as it looks like he may have just teased the black Superman suit.

Cavill took to his Instagram on Monday to post a picture of what is most definitely a black suit of some kind, but it is very zoomed in on the bust, so it is difficult to make out a whole lot from it. Fans with any sort of Superman comic book knowledge are very aware that this is likely a tease of the black Superman suit from the Death and Return of Superman storyline. It didn't hurt anything that Cavill simply captioned the photo with #Superman.

The Death and Return of Superman is one of the most famous comic book stories of all-time, which Zack Snyder loosely adapted in Batman V Superman. Hence, Superman is dead. But, it looks like we won't be waiting all that long for the return. Especially since it recently came to light that Warner Bros. has made Man of Steel 2 a top priority. In the Death and Return storyline, upon his return, Superman sported a black suit, which was a pretty big deal, because people were very accustomed to the blue suit and red underwear look. Not only that, but the hero was featured with long, jet black hair, which was quite different from the classic Superman look. If this picture is any indication, Snyder may very well be including a bit of visual fan service in Justice League.

It is no secret that Batman V Superman was not at all the smash success that Warner Bros. wanted it to be. The movie was intended to be a launching pad for the rest of their DC Extended Universe, but instead, it was met with terrible fan and critical reception. That forced Warner Bros. and Snyder to have to re-think some of their ideas and storytelling moving into Justice League, and it seems like they really listened to much of what everyone had to say, especially given the massive tonal change displayed in the Justice League footage we have seen. In case you missed it, here is the official synopsis for the movie.

"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."

Justice League is going to be sort of the DC Comics movie version of The Avengers, but the tone will be quite different and it is very clear that Warner Bros. wants to set themselves apart from Marvel Studios. The movie has a cast that we are largely already familiar with, bringing back Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, as well as Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg, who had brief cameos in Batman V Superman, and were showcased a bit more in the Justice League San Diego Comic-Con footage.Justice League has also added J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe. And it looks like Henry Cavill as Superman in some form or another. You can check out the tease of the black Superman costume below. Justice League is set for release on November 17, 2017.
