When the third trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted, it sent shockwaves throughout the Internet, with the new footage confirming the long-held rumor that the villainous Doomsday will be in the movie. With just over three months to go before the March 25 release date, some fans are wondering if the reveal gave away too much, but director Zack Snyder said in an interview with The Daily Beast that he and Warner Bros. spoke at length about whether or not to include the villain in this trailer. Here's what the filmmaker revealed, explaining that he wants fans to start thinking about the much bigger DC Comics Extended Universe this movie helps set up.

"We had a long conversation about just taking ownership of that, of giving it to the audience in a controlled way that I felt was consistent with the escalation of the campaign. To us it really made sense to give [Doomsday] to the audience now. I really wanted to make the audience a promise that... though I'm super excited and happy and fulfilled by the conflict of Batman and Superman, there's also a bigger world to start to think about."

Last week, Zack Snyder dropped another hint about this ever-expanding universe, teasing that the Justice League will have a "bigger enemy to fight." Of course, he didn't mention any specific villains for Justice League Part 1 (November 11, 2017) or Justice League Part 2 (June 14, 2019), but there have been rumors that either Darkseid or Brainiac could be the primary villain in those movies. When pressed for more details, the director would only say that the impending Justice League movies will also further explore Doomsday's "mythology."

"Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn't just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored."

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice launches Warner Bros. new DC Comics slate of movies, including Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016), Wonder Woman (June 23, 2017), Justice League Part 1 (November 17, 2017), The Flash (March 23, 2018), Aquaman (July 27, 2018), Shazam!
