For a great many fans and critics, the current DC Comics movie universe Warner Bros. has been putting together hasn't quite lived up to expectations. Man of Steel was a lukewarm start at best, and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may go down as one of the great disappointments of the year overall. But Zack Snyder is getting one more shot to prove that he can deliver a great DC Comics superhero movie with Justice League, and we have just been given our first look at it.

Warner Bros. decided to surprise fans with the first footage from Justice League at their Hall H presentation at this San Diego Comic-Con, which also featured a look at the upcoming Wonder Woman movie as well. Thousands of fans were packed into the room to get a look at the future of the DC Extended Universe, which will be continuing with Suicide Squad early next month. But all eyes were on Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman follow up, and Warner Bros. decided to not keep fans waiting and gave them the footage that they hoped would put everyone's mind at ease.

It is no secret that Batman V Superman was not at all the smash success that Warner Bros. wanted it to be. The movie was intended to be a launching pad for the rest of their DC Extended Universe, but instead, it was met with terrible fan and critical reception. That forced Warner Bros. and Snyder to have to re-think some of their ideas and storytelling moving into Justice League, and it seems like they really listened to what everyone had to say. In case you missed it, here is the official synopsis for the movie.

"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."

Justice League is meant to be the DC Comics movie version of The Avengers, but the tone will be quite different and it is clear that Warner Bros. wants to set themselves apart from Marvel Studios. The movie has a cast that we are largely already familiar with, bringing back Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, as well as Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg, who had brief cameos in Batman V Superman. Justice League has also added J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe. Also returning is Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

Batman V Superman is something that we are all going to try and move on from, and there are definitely some promising things on the the Warner Bros. DC Comics slate. For all of his problems, Zack Snyder is an excellent visual storyteller, and this first look at Justice League at the very least promises more of that. Justice League is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2017. Be sure to check out the first look for yourself below.
