Karl Urban is about to step into another dimension, on film. According to Variety, Urban has signed on to star in the new 3-D action film, Relentless from director Demian Lichtenstein (3000 Miles to Graceland).

Baldwin Entertainment will handle domestic distrubution while the London firm Velvet Octopus to distribute internationally. The story surrounds four extreme sports athletes whose plane crashes in the Amazon Jungle. They are forced to use their extreme survival tactics to escape the maniacal natives.

Lichtenstein has become versed in 3-D technology, having recently learned from helmer James Cameron on his Avatar set and he was also trained in 3-D by Dreamworks' James Mainard and Phil McNally.

"I am fascinated with the new 3-D technology and know that this script is a perfect match to take advantage of the unlimited potential of what 3-D can do," Lichtenstein commented. "After being mentored by James Cameron on the set of his new 3-D film Avatar, I knew that 3-D movies are no longer just a fad. It is the future of filmmaking."

The $25 million film is set to start shooting in Puerto Rico this September.
