Kate Hudson has just signed on to star as painter Margaret Keane in Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski's directing debut Big Eyes. According to Variety, Big Eyes will be produced by Dan Halsted, Bonafide partners Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, and Andrew Meieran.

The film will center on Keane's personal awakening at the onset of the feminist movement, leading to a lawsuit she filed against her husband, Walter, who claimed credit for her work. Big Eyes will be Alexander and Karaszewski third writing collaboration, having also worked together on 1408 and Ed Wood.

Production for Big Eyes is scheduled to start in June.
