Dark Skies star Keri Russell has signed on to portray the female lead in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for 20th Century Fox.

No immediate details were given regarding the actress' character, but she joins a growing cast that already includes Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Gary Oldman. Andy Serkis returns to portray the ape Caesar through motion capture technology. The story will take place 15 years after the events portrayed in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, following a group of San Francisco scientists trying to survive in a brave new world run by the apes. The story will also show how Caesar is starting to lose control of the animals he reigns over.

Matt Reeves (Let Me In) is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback (The Wolverine), with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Dylan Clark, and Peter Chernin. No production schedule has been released.

Aside from Dark Skies, which is currently playing in theaters, Keri Russell also stars in the FX series The Americans.
