Mixed martial arts fighter and actress Gina Carano has signed on to star in the Kickboxer remake. The actress will portray a fight promoter, alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dave Bautista and Alain Moussi. The remake is currently filming in New Orleans.

The story follows Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), a gifted martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn kickboxing secrets to avenge the death of his brother. Dave Bautista is playing the villainous Tong Po, who killed Kurt's brother. Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played Kurt Sloane in the original 1989 film Kickboxer, signed on last week to portray Master Chow, replacing the initially-attached Tony Jaa. The cast also includes Georges St. Pierre, Scott Adkins and Sara Malakul Lane, who is playing Kurt's love interest.

John Stockwell (Turistas) is directing from a screenplay by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath. Ted Field is producing for Radar Pictures alongside Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. The Exchange is selling the project worldwide, but there is no word yet on if a release date is being targeted. Gina Carano worked with John Stockwell on In the Blood, and she most recently starred in last year's Fast & Furious 6.
