Reality TV star and wife of Kayne West, Kim Kardashian suffered quite the scare this past 24 hours when she was robbed at gunpoint. The woman is said to be quite shaken, but she was left physically unharmed during the raid. The robbers are said to have made off with millions in jewelry.

The heist happened in the middle of the night at a luxurious Paris residence. Kim Kardashian was in town for Fashion Week, and she was staying at a rented townhouse in Paris' 8th arrondissement, which is located near the Place de la Madeleine. At 2:30 am, gunmen showed up disguised as police officers. They threatened the life of the concierge on duty before making their way into Kardashian's private apartment.

Kim Kardashian was tied up in her bathroom while the robbers looted the property. They were successful in obtaining several million dollars worth of jewelry, and made off free into the night on bicycles. Kardashian was rescued just a short time later. A spokesperson for the celebrity released this statement to Deadline.

"Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers. She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."

Kim's husband Kanye West reportedly left a live performance on Sunday night declaring his departure an unexpected family emergency. It is noted that France has become a hotbed of high-stakes jewelry heists over the past couple of years. Most of these robberies occur without injury. This string of armed thievery is said to have began at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. And a major jewelry boutique near Kardashian's rented residency has been hit a number of times in the past four years.

These robberies even inspired the Sky Atlantic/Canal Plus crime drama The Last Panthers and was was the subject of a recent 20/20 episode. Taken in last night's heist is a ring said to be worth 4 million euros. Cell phones were also taken. Most of the purloined items were jewelry, and though no grand tally has been released, the stolen items are said to be worth millions, though some of the amount is still being evaluated.

Some local politicians in France are speculating that the robbery of such a well-known celebrity could be very bad for the tourism board. Especially in the wake of several terrorist attacks in the country. Former candidate for Paris Mayor, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet had this to say.

"This news is spinning this morning on probably every channel in the world, and certainly at least on a loop in the United States. Do you realize the negative publicity this represents? There is a general emergency on safety in Paris."

Current mayor Anne Hidalgo, who defeated Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet in 2014, called the incident rare while condemning the attack. She does not believe that the successful robbery should reflect poorly on Paris' police and security forces. Kim Kardashian has reportedly already left the country after giving her statement about the incident in full to local Paris police officers. An investigation has been opened. And it will be handled by the Brigade de la Répression du Banditisme.
