20th Century Fox is moving forward with a new animated version of King Kong by hiring Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write the script.

This project will offer a fresh take on the legendary ape, by telling the story from his perspective. Mike Weber came up with the original concept and will produce.

Shawn Levy will also produce through his 21 Laps company alongside Radar Pictures' Ted Field. No production schedule was given for this new King Kong endeavor.

The last time we saw the enormous ape on the big screen was in 2005 with Peter Jackson's King Kong, which grossed $550 million worldwide. 20th Century Fox is also getting ready to unleash another ape project, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which is due in theaters on August 5.
