We reported back in October that director Lars von Trier was setting up a new film project and now it seems he has found his star. Deadline New York is reporting that Kirsten Dunst has landed the lead role in Melancholia.

Dunst takes over for Penélope Cruz, who was in negotiations for the role before signing on for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was said that Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier are also attached to roles in the film as well.

The film is set to start shooting in July, with filming taking place in Sweden.
