Last December, just months before its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, the first trailer was released for Knight of Cups, the latest from director Terrence Malick. We haven't heard anything about this mysterious project since then, but today, Broad Green Pictures has released the second trailer, which only features a few brief new shots that weren't included in the first trailer, amounting to roughly 10 seconds of new footage. Unfortunately, these never-before-seen moments don't give us any added insight into this story.

Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick's (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?

All we can glean from the footage is that this story explores the extravagant Hollywood lifestyle, told through the eyes of Christian Bale's Rick. He appears to be married to Cate Blanchett's character Nancy, who says in the trailer that Rick can do whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't leave her. The diverse supporting cast is rounded out by Isabel Lucas, Natalie Portman, Brian Dennehy, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Imogen Poots and Teresa Palmer.

We reported in February that Broad Green Pictures acquired Knight of Cups shortly after its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film is part of a two-picture deal that includes the rights to Terrence Malick's next film, which also stars Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett, along with Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and Rooney Mara. No release date has been handed out for that currently untitled project, which was previously known as Lawless.

In addition to this slightly new trailer, Broad Green Pictures has released a new photo from Knight of Cups, which features Christian Bale and Natalie Portman on a beach. Knight of Cups will go up against STX Entertainment's Desierto, Gramercy's London Has Fallen, Warner Bros.' Me Before You, Disney's Zootopia and Paramount's Untitled Tina Fey - Margot Robbie - Martin Freeman Project, which was previously known as The Taliban Shuffle. Take a look at the trailer and photo for Knight of Cups, and stay tuned for more on this Terrence Malick drama.
