Just days after Jason Clarke signed on to star in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, teenage actor Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast as one of the leads. No character details were released at this time.

The actor will reunite with his Let Me In director Matt Reeves on this sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The story will be set 15 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, following a group of scientists trying to survive in this new world overrun by apes. The plot also focuses on Caesar (Andy Serkis), the ape leader who is having trouble controlling the animals in his kingdom.

Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay by Mark Bomback, with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver producing. 20th Century Fox is currently eyeing a spring production start.

Kodi Smit-McPhee recently provided the voice of the title character in Focus Features' stop-motion comedy ParaNorman.
