Kurt Russell has signed on to star in Bone Tomahawk, a Western that will mark the directorial debut of screenwriter S. Craig Zahler (The Brigands of Rattleborge). Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins, and Jennifer Carpenter have also joined the cast.

This violent Western follows a sheriff (Kurt Russell), a gunslinger, an old-timer (Richard Jenkins), and a cowboy (Peter Sarsgaard) who set out to rescue a group from a tribe of cannibals. Jennifer Carpenter will play one of those taken captive by the flesh-eaters.

S. Craig Zahler will direct from his own screenplay, with Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller producing for Caliber Media. Production is scheduled to begin this spring in New Mexico.

S. Craig Zahler's screenplay for The Brigands of Rattleborge landed atop The Black List in 2006. Director Chan-wook Park is currently developing that project for Red Granite Pictures. The writer also has The Big Stone Grid set up at Sony, with Michael Mann attached to direct.
