Lea Thompson has signed on to star in the Left Behind remake for Films In Motion and director Vic Armstrong.

The actress is portraying the wife of Nicolas Cage's Ray Steele, who warns her family that the apocalypse is coming, but ends up pushing them farther away from her in the process. The story is set after the Rapture, where millions of people around the world suddenly disappear, leaving the rest of the Earth's population to deal with a planet embroiled in utter chaos and destruction. She joins a cast that also includes Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan, Quinton Aaron and Jordin Sparks.

Paul Lalonde and John Patus co-wrote the screenplay, based on the novel series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, which has sold more than 65 million copies in the United States. Production is currently under way in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Kirk Cameron starred in the original Left Behind series which launched in 2001 and spawned the sequels Left Behind II: Tribulation Force in 2002 and Left Behind: World at War in 2005.
