According to Variety, Lions Gate has come aboard Screen Gems horror pic Hostel and will handle North American and television distribution for the film, penned and being directed by Eli Roth and exec produced by Quentin Tarantino.

Screen Gems retains international distribution and domestic homevid rights to the film, which will be released this winter.

Jay Hernandez (Friday Night Lights) stars as a backpacker who becomes entangled in a demented underground torture ring.

Roth collaborated on the pic with exec producers Tarantino, Scott Spiegel and Boaz Yakin, along with producers Mike Fleiss (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) and Chris Briggs.

Lions Gate and Screen Gems previously collaborated on The Punisher. Roth's previous film, Cabin Fever, which he wrote and directed, was also released by Lions Gate.
