‘Locke & Key’ Confirmed for Feature Adaptation at Universal Pictures

Locke & Key feature adaptation moves forward at Universal Universal Pictures is officially moving forward with Locke & Key, after a report from November that revealed the studio wanted to turned the failed pilot into a movie trilogy. While the studio officially picked up the option on Joe Hill's comic book series today, it isn't known if they are still planning on making a trilogy.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing with Bobby Cohen. Our story from November indicated the producers are writing the screenplay, but that has not been confirmed yet.

The project has had an interesting trajectory throughout the years, first being developed as a feature by Dimension Films back in 2008. The story then was adapted for the small screen as a TV pilot for Fox, but the network declined to give it a series order back in 2011, due to budgetary constraints. Both Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman served as executive producers on the pilot.

The story centers around three siblings who return to their massive estate in Massachusetts, after their father's murder. They soon realize that the house has magical keys that give supernatural powers to those who possess them, which they must use to stop an evil creature who also wants the keys.

No production schedule was given for this adaptation.

Locke & Key is in development .
