Get excited bub, because we now have our first real look at Hugh Jackman's last turn as Wolverine. 20th Century Fox has released the very first teaser trailer for Logan, the third solo Wolverine movie which has been a massive mystery to us up until very recently. Following a tweet from director James Mangold that revealed Hugh Jackman as "Old Man Logan," the trailer has finally arrived. The veil of secrecy has been lifted and this first footage from Logan has us more hyped than ever for a landmark final performance as the iconic mutant from Hugh Jackman.
The anticipation for the trailer started building a little bit ago when star Hugh Jackman posted the first official poster for Logan to his Instagram. Ever since that very first poster, which featured Wolverine holding a small hand with his trademark claws out, a bunch of photos have made their way online, revealing very little but stirring up excitement at the same time. We have seen teases of iconic villains, an old Professor X and maybe even X-23.
The official poster for Wolverine 3 added a lot more fuel to the rumors of X-23's presence, which has been rumored for some time. Many believed that the young girl featured holding Wolverine's hand belongs to X-23, a.k.a. Laura Kinney. Long before the poster, recent plot rumors and this first Logan trailer came to light, this movie was rumored to be loosely based on the Old Man Logan comics. Unfortunately due to Marvel Studios holding a lot of the rights to certain characters, Old Man Logan couldn't be adapted beat for beat, but given the title of Logan and what we have seen, it appears the movie has taken some inspiration from the beloved comic book storyline.
Hugh Jackman has had an unprecedented run as the character of Wolverine, aka Logan. He first played the part in Bryan Singer's X-Men back in 2000, which is largely responsible for the boom in superhero movies over the last decade and a half. He has since played Wolverine in seven movies, as well as a cameo in X-Men: First Class. The last solo outing featuring the character, The Wolverine, grossed $414 million worldwide, but given that Logan is going to be Hugh Jackman's last go as the character, it isn't hard to imagine this movie doing better at the box office.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Doris Morgado, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Richard E. Grant and Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his role as Professor X. James Mangold has returned to direct the movie after helming The Wolverine. Logan is set for release on March 3, 2017. Be sure to check out the first trailer for the movie for yourself below.
