Over the past few months, Logan star Hugh Jackman, director James Mangold and the Wponx Instagram account have been sharing cryptic new photos from this highly-anticipated superhero adventure, which hits theaters on March 3, 2017. Through these photos, we've gotten confirmation that Dafne Keen is playing the mutant clone X-23, along with our first looks at Boyd Holbrook's Donald Pierce, Stephen Merchant's Caliban and much more. Today, Hugh Jackman himself has debuted yet another new photo, which confirms that Richard E. Grant is playing an important character that has roots in the Marvel Comics.

The actor debuted the photo today from his Twitter account, featuring our first look at Richard E. Grant, with the photo's caption reading, "Rice. Logan. 3.3.17," which confirms that Richard E. Grant is playing none other than Dr. Zander Rice, one of the creators of the mutant clone X-23 in the original Marvel comics. In the comics, Zander Rice's father was part of the original Weapon X program. Zander helped develop X-23's "trigger scent," which would cause her to go on a murderous rampage.

There had long been rumors of X-23's presence before this character was confirmed. The post-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalyspe featured an unseen character walking through the carnage caused by Logan, before he picks up a vial of blood that is marked "Wolverine." Many fans believe that this blood is used to create the X-23 clone, who we'll see in Wolverine 3. It's possible that it was actually Zander Rice who picked up that vial of blood at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, but that hasn't been confirmed.

One of the other photos that debuted last month may have offered some more clues into X-23's origins, with the image featuring what may have been the device used to inject Wolverine's mutant powers into X-23. The movie will be partially based on the iconic Old Man Logan comics, with Logan (Hugh Jackman) losing his mutant healing abilities. The previous photos revealed through social media featured Stephen Merchant's Caliban, Patrick Stewart's Professor X and one of the Reavers, played by Stephen Dunlevy. There have also been cryptic images featuring various locations around El Paso, Texas, and what is believed to be a glimpse at the comic book character Arcade.

There was also another cryptic photo which showed the limousine that Hugh Jackman's Logan is driving, which may have hinted that Professor X gets killed off in this movie. We saw this limousine in the very first set photos, with the actor working alongside Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney, a.k.a X-23. Those set photos revealed that the limousine had a slew of bullet holes in it. This latest photo shows that there are a concentration of bullet holes on the passenger side door, which may or may not be where Professor X was sitting in the first trailer. The cast also includes Boyd Holbrook as the villainous Donald Pierce, along with Eriq La Salle in an unspecified role. James Mangold directs Logan from a script by David James Kelly and Michael Green. Take a look at the latest photo from Logan, as we get closer to the March 3, 2017 release date.
