Former Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless has signed on for a mysterious role in Season 2 of ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

No details were given for her character, and it isn't known if she is only appearing in one episode, or if she is taking on a multi-episode arc. Lucy Lawless is the first new character to sign on for Season 2, joining series regulars Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Brett Dalton (Grant Ward), Chloe Bennet (Skye), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz) and Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons).

We reported earlier this month that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming to Comic-Con 2014, with a panel on Friday, July 25 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in Ballroom 20. The show returns for its second season on Tuesday, September 23 in its new time at 9 PM ET on ABC.

Lucy Lawless most recently starred in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, where she plays Diane Lewis, the new wife of Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman).
