With Marvel's Daredevil currently filming its second season, and Marvel's Jessica Jones already wrapped on its first season, the next Marvel Netflix series to move forward is Marvel's Luke Cage. Mike Colter has already signed on to play Luke Cage, with Alfre Woodard recently joining the cast as Minetta, described as a powerful woman with connections to Hell's Kitchen's political scene. Today, Deadline reports that Sons of Anarchy star Theo Rossi has joined the cast, with Marvel's Daredevil star Rosario Dawson also coming aboard to reprise her role as Claire Temple, a.k.a. Night Nurse.

This new report reveals that Theo Rossi is playing a character named "Sonny," who is described as relentless, menacing, smooth and manipulative. However, it is believed that the character name "Sonny' is fake, and the actor is actually playing Marvel Comics character Shades. In the comics, Shades, along with his partner Comanche, was locked up at Seagate prison with Luke Cage. After getting out of prison, he obtained special glasses that emitted powerful laser blasts, and frequently clashed with Luke Cage. While still unconfirmed, it is also believed that Alfre Woodard's character Minetta is actually the villainous Black Mariah.

Rosario Dawson originated the Claire Temple/Night Nurse role on Marvel's Daredevil, and she has also been confirmed to appear in Marvel's Jessica Jones as well. Now that she has been set to return in Marvel's Luke Cage, it's possible that Marvel and Netflix are setting her up as the character who brings all of the aforementioned heroes together, along with Marvel's Iron Fist, to form The Defenders. Mike Colter's Luke Cage is also set to appear in Marvel's Jessica Jones, before Marvel's Luke Cage debuts sometime next year.

In the comics, Luke Cage and Claire Temple were romantically linked, so it's not surprising that she has come aboard for this new series, but it still hasn't been confirmed if they will use that story line or not. Cheo Hodari Coker serves as showrunner and executive producer for Marvel's Luke Cage, which is expected to debut sometime in 2016, with Marvel's Iron Fist debuting later that year. The Defenders will bring all of the street level Hell's Kitchen heroes together in one massive miniseries, set to debut sometime in 2017.

Theo Rossi is best known for his role as Juice in FX's hit drama series Sons of Anarchy, which aired its final season last year. He will next be seen on the big screen in Lowriders and When the Bough Breaks, arriving in theaters next year. What do you think about Theo Rossi playing Shades in Marvel's Luke Cage?
