‘Mad TV’ Gets Cancelled

Fox ends the sketch comedy series after almost 14 seasons.

Fox has brought it's late-night sketch comedy series to an end. According to Variety, MadTV will end its run at the end of this season. However, much like Fox's recently-cancelled King of the Hill, there seems to be interest in continuing the series on another network.

"There's been great interest in recent years," said executive producer David Salzman. "We've had a number of networks inquire as to whether the show was coming off Fox and saying that they'd be interested. We have not started to talk to them yet, but now is the time to begin those conversations. I think we have real prospects, but you never know, especially given the economy."

The series received a shortened season order this season, with production set to end in December, but Fox decided to break the news now, in order for the show to prepare its final send-off.

"This will give us a proper sendoff, a chance to promote the finale and bring back old cast members," Salzman said.

The reason for the cancellation appears to be strictly a financial decision.

"They said it was too expensive for a daypart where dollars have been shrinking," he said. "Their thought was, the show is what the show is, and that essence needs to be maintained -- but it's hard to produce as big and ambitious a show as ours for less money than they're paying now."

I can't believe this either..I can't believe these actors ask for more money... if i was on tv I would be happy to make people laugh and i would never ask for a raise.. in fact, if indeed MAD TV is picked up by comedy central or another channel, look me up, I am a great comedian and understand the dark humor of mad tv... Wow. This show's been on how long? And they're cancelling due to the fiscal state of the economy? Which is affecting them of all people?

This is on for like, 2hrs from 7-9am every Saturday & Sunday morning on Comedy Central. It's the kinda show that you only watch when there's nothing else on. lol!

you ever heard of abc's friday nights?

it was a snl-like sketch comedy show from abc that aired for a few years in the early 80's, and its ratings far exceeded that of snl, yet it got yanked so that abc could air an extra night of "nightline" or whatever their late night news show is.

i'm just saying, even if madtv had come about earlier it might still be getting the boot today. sometimes networks just make bad decisions about what shows to keep and which to cancel.

                                  i loved that show

it would have never got cancelled if it came on earlier

man they are cancelling anything nowadays

(i like your avatar, by the way)

i have to respectfully disagree with your statement "these type of shows have lived out their welcome", ive always been a huge fan of sketch comedy.

shows like snl, madtv, mr show, kids in the hall, & sctv have all found a permanant place in my dvd collection. hell i even liked the mary tyler moore and the tracy ulman sketch shows that were on tv when i was a wee tike.

i really like mad tv even though i only ever watch the first half before snl starts. they have some great castmembers, in my opinion.

it had its moments but this show really has gone down hill along with SNL. im waiting for that to get cancelled soon. does anyone remember the "political sketch" with that random guy just screaming "fix it!" ...f*cking lame. not creative or funny. these type of shows have lived out their welcome. along with reality TV.
