Some animated animals stampeded through the DVD charts this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa took the top spot on the DVD sales charts for the week ending February 8. The sales were so strong for this title that it is currently the best-selling title of the new year so far.

There wasn't a whole lot of competition for Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, with fellow newcomer Space Buddies in a distant second place, selling about half as many discs as the winner. Other new releases were Secret Life of Bees in third place on both the sales and rental charts and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which came in fourth place in sales and fifth place in rentals.

With the high amount of sales, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa couldn't quite take the rental crown away from last week's winner, Lakeview Terrace. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa did have a strong performance on the rental charts, coming in second place and renting about 92% as many discs as Lakeview Terrace.

On the high-def side of the charts, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa took the top spot once again, with Zack and Miri Make a Porno in a respectable second place, selling 64% of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa's BD discs.
