Steven Soderbergh's longtime assistant director Gregory Jacobs is taking over the reigns of Magic Mike XXL, a sequel to 2012's dramatic comedy smash hit Magic Mike starring Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum.

Channing Tatum is returning as writer on this follow-up, which co-star Joe Manganiello recently revealed was scheduled to being shooting soon. Channing Tatum was originally planning to direct before the job ultimately went to Gregory Jacobs.

Steven Soderbergh, who directed the original, will stay on as an executive producer. Gregory Jacobs has served as his first AD since 1993's King of the Hill, and started serving as a producer with the 2002 movie Full Frontal. He served as both assistant director and producer on Magic Mike.

Gregory Jacobs isn't a first time director, having helmed Criminal in 2004 and Wind Chill in 2007. He also created, wrote and is executive producing the Amazon Studios original series Red Oaks, a single camera comedy. He was planning to direct as well, but since he is now taking on Magic Mike XXL, David Gordon Green will helm the pilot and possibly more episodes.

While no deals are in place, most, if not all, of the original cast is returning for Magic Mike XXL, including Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Olivia Munn.
