Fans of the 1980 horror classic Maniac who think the upcoming remake may not be as gory as the original should put those fears to rest by watching an all-new extended 20-minute featurette about the making of the movie. Maniac director Franck Khalfoun, writer-producer Alexandre Aja, star Elijah Wood and makeup FX artist Mike McCarty take us behind-the-scenes and show off how some of these gruesome effects were created. We see that Elijah Wood's Frank actually takes the scalps off women, unlike the original which "held back" on some of the gorier moments, according to McCarty. We also examine Frank's weapons of choice, and much more from this bloody thriller, debuting on VOD and in New York theaters today, with a theatrical expansion to follow in the coming weeks.
