According to Variety, The Casanova team of producer Mark Gordon and screenwriter Jeffrey Hatcher will move from the legendary lothario to the Mark Twain literary classic The Prince and the Pauper.

Sony has set a deal to develop the pic through its overall deal with Mark Gordon Prods.

Hatcher, who also scripted Stage Beauty, will stay in period mode for a Twain tale set in 16th-century London. Aim is to achieve a tone comparable to that of "Pirates of the Caribbean" while remaining faithful to the storyline of look-alikes from opposite ends of the social spectrum who trade places for a night.
