With just over one week until 20th Century Fox's The Martian hits theaters, the studio has released a new viral video that shows how the world has united behind NASA's mission to bring stranded astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) back home to Earth. The video shows how Mark Watney has become a worldwide hero, as a massive effort gets under way to "Bring Him Home." The Martian has already been hailed by many critics as one of the best of the year, after its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring The Martian home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission.

As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, The Martian features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Sean Bean, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover. The Martian will be going up against another critically-acclaimed film, Sicario, which expands nationwide on October 2 after debuting in limited release.

Ridley Scott directs from an adapted screenplay by Drew Goddard, based on the hit novel by Andy Weir. The director also serves as a producer alongside Simon Kinberg, Michael Schaefer, Mark Huffam and Aditya Sood. We'll have to wait and see how audiences respond to this sci-fi drama, but if the buzz is any indication, this could be a massive hit for everyone involved.

20th Century Fox has released a number of viral videos already, leading up to the release of The Martian, with one even featuring scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson himself. We'll keep you posted if the studio releases any more videos that explore the world created in The Martian, but for now, check out this latest entry below. Do you think the world as we know it today would rally around a stranded astronaut like Mark Watney in real life?
