Director Martin Scorcese may be pulling double-duty on a new HBO pilot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scorcese is in talks to direct the pilot episode for HBO's new series, Boardwalk Empire. Scorcese is already an executive producer on the series.

The series is based off a book by Nelson Johnson which recounts the gambling genesis of Atlantic City in the 1920s. Terrence Winter wrote the pilot.

HBO had been trying to secure Scorcese to direct the pilot, but it was uncertain he'd be able to with his schedule. He's currently in post-production with his new film, Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

No production schedule was released for the pilot.
