Just days after we reported that actor Donald Glover is essentially giving up his "campaign" to play Miles Morales, an unconfirmed Spider-Man rumor reveals that this new version of the character will not be white, and he will not be Peter Parker. When Marvel and Sony officially announced that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad specifically mentioned the character Peter Parker by name, but, if this unconfirmed rumor is true, the rebooted Spidey may be Miles Morales from the Ultimate Marvel Comics. Here's what The Wrap's Jeff Sneider had to say about the rumor.

"This is not set in stone, guys, but I'm telling you right now: Spider-Man's not going to be white. I'm 95% sure. Spider-Man's going to be most likely black. But there's a chance he could also be latino. 95% sure: not white. I don't think it's going to be Peter Parker."

In the comic books, Miles Morales was half African-American and half Latino, and this would fall in line with other recent reports that both Sony and Marvel want a much younger actor to play Spider-Man, since the story will go back to Midtown High School. Jeff Sneider also reveals that the casting of an African-American or Latino actor as the web slinger may help alleviate perceptions that some at the studio may be racist, following a spate of emails that leaked through the Sony hack.

"I really feel strongly. Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with a major black comic book character. Like I mentioned last week, the emails that leaked were perceived as racist in some quarters. I really think that's going to play into things."

If this report is true, it would contradict a casting rumor from earlier this month, which claimed that Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien, both of whom are white, are early contenders to play Peter Parker. It is believed that this new Spider-Man will make his first appearance in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, which starts shooting later this year, before starring in a new stand alone Spider-Man movie, which is set for release on July 28, 2017.
