While Marvel continues the hunt for its new Ant-Man director, its being reported today that Scott Derrickson, the man behind the horror hit Sinister and the upcoming exorcism thriller Deliver Us from Evil is going to take the helm on Doctor Strange.

The Phase Three film doesn't have a release date at this time. Talks between Marvel, Disney and Scott Derrickson are still early, but a deal is expected to be closed very soon. Neither Marvel nor Disney had any comments in regard to the hiring.

Kevin Feige is producing Doctor Strange, which has long be a passion project for the Marvel Studio president. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Stephen Broussard are all serving as executive producers.

Doctor Strange, nicknamed the Sorcerer Supreme, is a former neurosurgeon who becomes the primary protector of Earth against magical and mythical threats. The character first appeared in the 1963 comic book series Strange Tales before getting his own series. He has also teamed up with a number of Marvel's biggest super heroes, including The Fantastic Four, The Amazing Spider-Man and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nick Fury. Its not known at this time if he will be joining The Avengers line-up.

The presence of Doctor Strange has already been teased in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the original Thor.

Marvel will continue looking for Edgar Wright's replacement on Ant-Man. They will also begin the search for the perfect Doctor Strange. There are no frontrunners for the role at this time, but both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Johnny Depp have been mentioned in the past. Its doubtful at this point that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will sign on, as he is currently involved with bringing DC Comics Sandman to the screen.

It is not known when Doctor Strange will be released, but expect to see it in 2017.
