Up and coming young actor Brett Dalton is the latest to join Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot for ABC and creator Joss Whedon.

The actor will portray Agent Grant Ward, a highly-trained operative who lacks people skills. The character was one of five mentioned in the casting breakdowns from October, along with Agent Althea Rice (now known as Melinda May) played by Ming-Na, Elizabeth Henstridge's Agent Gemma Simmons, and Ian de Caestecker's Agent Leo Fitz. The agent known as Skye is the only character who hasn't been cast from that initial rundown.

Joss Whedon wrote the pilot script with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who will all executive produce alongside Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. Joss Whedon is expected to direct the pilot episode, with production slated to begin in January.

Brett Dalton previously guest starred on shows such as Blue Bloods and Army Wives.
