‘Marvel's The Avengers 2’ and Marvel Phase 2 Details from Joss Whedon

The Avengers 2 will 'twist the knife' says director Joss Whedon Director Joss Whedon is currently prepping for the monstrous task of following up this summer's blockbuster Marvel's The Avengers with The Avengers 2 in 2015. The filmmaker revealed he plans to take these superheroes to the edge, testing their cohesive relationships.

"The creation of the team is not the happy ending. It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I'm digging, just twist that knife. And that's exciting for me."

The filmmaker will also be consulting and overseeing the rest of Marvel's Phase 2 movies such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, he doesn't plan on ruling with an iron fist.

"Very talented people are writing and directing these movies, and what I don't want to be is the guy they dread, who's going to come in and say 'Oh, well I have the power to say change this.' I'm not that."

Avengers: Age of Ultron was released May 1st, 2015.

@aoshi He wasn't in the Avengers movie because he wasn't one of the original Avengers. For stand alone films they own the character, but not totally owned that Marvel can not get their hands on him to use him.

But you're right Sony would definitely work with them for sure to include him. They would be damn fools if they didn't.

@mcleve02 Sony has the movie rights to the character. It doesn't matter if Marvel tries to use a completely different Spiderman, it's still Sony's. The reason they pushed for a reboot so quickly was so they wouldn't lose those rights. That's also the reason Spiderman was not in the first Avengers movie.

I don't see any reason, though, why Sony wouldn't want to jump into the bandwagon of cash and co-produce The Avengers 2 so Spiderman can join in.

@bawnian-dexeus Not if they are using a totally different character with a totally different story completely unconnected to TASM... That is what they were originally doing with the JLA movie when they first announced it... Nolan's Batman and Superman returns were going to continue with totally different characters being in the film... that is one example in real life where this has happened before.. But I doubt that they would have any trouble with Sony over any of this...

@mcleve02 As far as my understanding of film rights goes, wouldn't mentioning his name be considered a violation ?

@rudy Doubtful... I wish they would! But I feel like the Thanos story arc won't make sense with the X-Men included... but we shall see!

@bawnian-dexeus I am sure that Marvel can work out a deal with them.. besides Sony only owns the rights to the film, not the character
