Matthew McConaughey Boards ‘Bernie’

Matthew McConaughey joins BernieMatthew McConaughey has boarded the dark comedy Bernie, starring opposite Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine in the film that is directed by Richard Linklater.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rip Torn is also boarding the Mandalay Vision and Castle Rock Entertainment project.

Bernie is set in the small town of Carthage, Texas, and follows Renaissance man/community leader/mortician Bernie (Jack Black), who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a wealthy but very particular widow (Shirley MacLaine). When he kills her, he goes to great lengths to maintain the illusion that she is still alive.

Matthew McConaughey will play the town's district attorney, always angling for re-election and suspicious about the widow's death. Rip Torn will play Bernie's defense lawyer.

The movie films next month in Texas.

Bernie was released April 27th, 2012.

    they are not remaking Weekend at Bernie's. This is based on a true story, of a murder that really did happen in carthage, texas. Bernie Tiede is still serving his life sentence in a prison in texas. His first parole meeting takes place in 2023.

      .....but will he take his shirt off? Signs point to yes. Kills me how he can do like a real dramatic performance (Reign of Fire and such) and then turn around and do this kind of stuff. And why the hell are they remaking Weekend at Bernie's anyway?

        Tentative about this film, I'm not sure if Matthew should do this film. He hasn't impressed me with any of his films yet.
