On Saturday we updated an earlier story with new information that Matthew Vaughn will not be directing X-Men: First Class and now it seems Vaughn might be back on the project after all. Deadline New York is reporting that Vaughn has come back into the picture and is finalizing a deal to direct X-Men: First Class.

The site reports that Vaughn re-entered negotiations this morning and is working out a deal with the studio and his representation. We previously reported that Fox had been looking at such directors as Timur Bekmambetov, Louis Leterrier, David Slade, Daniel Espinosa and Carl Rinsch to direct the film. It was said that several of those directors were interviewed, but when Vaughn came back to the table this morning, they started working out a deal for him to direct.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any official announcements regarding Matthew Vaughn directing X-Men: First Class as soon as we have more information.
