Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis has signed on to make his directorial debut with Me Him Her for Big Beach Films, the company behind this year's indie hit Safety Not Guaranteed.

The story is set in Los Angeles and follows three lead characters, at least one of whom is struggling with sexual identity issues described as "Reality Bites on acid." Themes of sex, love, and friendship will be explored in, "the weirdest, most surreal way possible," according to the director. Specific story details have been kept under wraps, in a secretive and very nerdy way. The filmmaker reportedly used the logline for Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi to purposefully throw agents off.

Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub are producing, with production tentatively scheduled to begin next spring or summer. Casting is currently under way.

Max Landis has lined up a number of high-profile projects since Chronicle debuted in February. He is writing the Frankenstein reboot for Fox, an untitled space project for Disney, a superhero TV series entitled Vigilant, and Chronicle 2.
