Back in 2011, Jason Statham starred in the action remake The Mechanic, based on a 1970s Charles Bronson classic. The remake didn't exactly set the box office on fire, earning just $29.1 million domestically and $62 million worldwide, from a $40 million budget. Now that the franchise has shifted to Lionsgate, the studio is pulling out all the stops with the action-packed sequel Mechanic: Resurrection, which you can see in the first trailer.

Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) returns as the Mechanic in the sequel to the 2011 action thriller. When the deceitful actions of a cunning but beautiful woman (Jessica Alba) force him to return to the life he left behind, Bishop's life is once again in danger as he has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world, or he faces being executed himself. The movie was shot on location in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jason Statham and Jessica Alba are joined in the cast by Tommy Lee Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Sam Hazeldine and Geoffrey Guiliano. German filmmaker Dennis Gansel, best known for the recent thriller The Wave, is directing from a script by Phillip Shelby and Tony Mosher. This sequel will hit theaters on August 26, going up against The Weinstein Company's boxing biopic Hands of Stone and Screen Gems' thriller Don't Breathe.

Jason Statham is world renowned as an action icon. He most recently signed for the lead role in Warner Bros. massive blockbuster thriller Meg, which will see The Expendables star going up against a prehistoric shark eating people off the coast of China. He will also reprise his role as Deckard Shaw in Fast & Furious 8, which begins shooting this summer. The actor has come aboard to star in the TV show Viva La Madness, which is a sequel to the movie Layer Cake.

Along with this new trailer, we also have a poster for Mechanic: Resurrection, which shows Jason Statham putting his death-defying skills to the test. We'll have to wait and see if audiences flock to this sequel this summer more than they did when the first remake hit theaters five years ago. Until then, take a look at the trailer and poster below for Mechanic: Resurrection.
