New Line Cinema has purchased Melissa McCarthy's screenplay Tammy, a comedy which she will also executive produce and possibly star in.

The story centers around the title character, a woman who loses her job at Hardees and then finds out her husband is cheating on her. She goes on a road trip with her foul-mouthed, hard-drinking grandmother to escape the problems in her life. Here's what Melissa McCarthy had to say about Tammy.

"It's about these two women who are not where they thought they would be, and then they kind of band together. It's just my perfect tone. It's so funny, and it also kind of breaks my heart."

The news comes just months after Melissa McCarthy's breakout performance in the comedy hit Bridesmaids. She will next appear in This Is Forty from Judd Apatow, and she is also writing an Untitled Melissa McCarthy Project with Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumolo.

No production schedule was given for Tammy.
