The Addams Family is coming back to the big screen with a new animated reboot from MGM Studios. The project is not related to Illumination Entertainment's The Addams Family, a stop-motion feature which Tim Burton was slated to direct. That project is no longer moving forward.

Pamela Pettler (Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Monster House, 9) has signed on to write the screenplay, with BermanBraun's Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun producing. Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi are executive producing.

No story details have been given at this time, but the film will be based on Charles Addams' beloved comic strip, which was published in The New Yorker from 1938 until 1988, when the creator passed away.

The comics spawned The Addams Family live-action TV series featuring Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Thing, which ran from 1964 to 1966, along with The Addams Family 1991 feature film and its sequels Addams Family Values and Addams Family Reunion.
