Last month, we reported that production is under way on the prequel/sequel Raging Bull II, starring William Forsythe as boxing champion Jake LaMotta. Raging Bull distributor MGM Studios has filed a lawsuit against Raging Bull II and Jake LaMotta for breach of contract.

The studio is alleging that the boxer couldn't sell the rights to his 1986 sequel book without offering them to MGM first. The contract states that the studio owns the rights to his original 1970 book, and any, "owner-written sequel." The lawsuit also alleges that RB II Productions, the company behind this new movie, has ignored the studio's requests to comply with the original agreement.

MGM is seeking an immediate production shut-down on Raging Bull II, and other unspecified compensatory, punitive, and exemplary damages.

Martin Guigui is directing from an adapted screenplay he co-wrote with Rustam Branaman. This follow-up takes place both before and after the events of Martin Scorsese's 1980 classic Raging Bull. William Forsythe plays the older version of Jake LaMotta, with Mojean Aria playing the younger version.
