Several studios are vying for the rights to make a brand new 3D horror movie based on Michael Jackson's uber-popular song and music video, Thriller, according to Deadline.

GK Films is the front-runner to land the project, with Fox 2000, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment in contention as well. The movie is being set up at Real Effects Entertainment with Kenny Ortega (Michael Jackson's This Is It) directing from a screenplay by Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up). The budget is said to be around $50 million.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, although the story is said to delve into the folklore of the song, which involves horror actor Vincent Price's hometown. Vincent Price recorded a classic rap on Michael Jackson's Thriller album.
