One of the biggest casting questions swirling around NBC's Constantine has finally been answered, with newcomer Michael James Shaw signing on to play the iconic Papa Midnite in the upcoming series.

Michael James Shaw will have a recurring role as Papa Midnite, the voodoo king of New Orleans who serves as a primary adversary to Matt Ryan's John Constantine. In the original Hellblazer comics, Papa Midnite and Constantine didn't see eye to eye since his first appearance in Hellblazer #1, but they have also been allies at different times during the original comic's run. USA Today reports that, with "evil forces rising on Earth," Constantine and Midnite may have to join forces.

It isn't known exactly when Papa Midnite will make his debut on the series, or how many episodes he will be featured in.

Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer wrote the pilot script for the NBC series and will serve as executive producers alongside Mark Verheiden. The series will debut on Friday, October 24 at 10 PM ET on NBC.

Michael James Shaw previously had a guest-starring spot on an episode of The Wire, and he has appeared in a number of short films.
