Saturday Night Live star Cecily Strong has joined the cast of Universal Pictures' new comedy Michelle Darnell, which is currently in production. No details were given for what character she is playing, but the actress will star alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kathy Bates, Kristen Bell and Annie Mumolo. Peter Dinklage recently signed on to play the primary antagonist.

The story centers on Melissa McCarthy's title character, who was a titan of industry before she was caught for insider trading and sentenced to a stint in prison. After being released, Michelle Darnell tries to re-brand herself as America's new sweetheart, only to realize that the people she ripped off are not ready to forgive her quite yet. Melissa McCarthy created the title character through her time working with the Groundlings improv troupe.

Melissa McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone is directing from a script he co-wrote with Melissa McCarthy and their Groundlings collaborator Steve Mallory. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are also producing alongside Gary Sanchez Productions' Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. Cecily Strong, who joined the Saturday Night Live cast in 2012, will next be seen in The Bronze, and she is also rumored to have a supporting role in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, which also stars Melissa McCarthy.
